ABOUT LAN

Loudoun Allergy Network (LAN) is a support group for families living with food allergies in Loudoun County, Virginia.  LAN was founded by a mother, in October of 2007, after her two year old toddler was diagnosed with multiple food allergies and asthma. Starting as an email group, LAN has grown to become a nationally recognized support group for families managing food allergies and anaphylaxis in Loudoun County.  LAN members and medical advisors work together to educate and promote food allergy awareness within their community. The group focuses on school and social strategies, share life tips, products and recipes. Connecting with others give members comfort knowing they are not alone.

In 2010, several LAN members came together to form the School Advisory Committee (formerly the School Action Group) to advocate for consistent, county-wide food allergy management policies in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS). Throughout the following years, members of LAN's School Advisory Committee worked with LCPS School Board members, LCPS Administration and attended various LCPS Committees to promote safety and full inclusion of students with food allergies. Assisting other parents with school preparations, LAN's School Advisory Committee share information and resources on the process of obtaining an Individualized Health Care Plan and a Section 504 Plan.

Our Mission

Support

Managing anaphylaxis is a difficult process. After diagnosis of a food allergy, many parents feel overwhelmed. LAN members share experiences and provide practical advice.

Educate

We educate our families and the local community about living with IgE-mediated food allergies. LAN provides resources through various platforms. In group meeting, guest speakers give presentations on food allergies and other anaphylaxis related topics. Members participate in fundraising activities to support outreach and medial research.

Advocate

We work with various national organizations, the Loudoun County Public School, and with the Loudoun County Government to promote awareness of IgE-mediated food allergies. LAN is committed to increasing awareness and advocating for a safer environment.
Our Twitter feed highlights several food allergy related topics including recalls and alerts from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS). These notices will be published to both our social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook. We encourage you to inquire with the FDA and FSIS websites for more details. You can find links to their site under NEWS in the navigation menu.
