We are happy to introduce our new Food Allergy Aware program to help families and school staff!  Just in time for Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW), this educational activity was created by LAN Chair, Thanita Glancey, which helps children (and grown ups!) become food allergy detectives.  A fun activity to do at home or with your class*.  Find suspects.  List their locations.  Earn your official badge.  Anyone can be Detective Spot D. Allergen!

We are happy to announce the opening of the official Loudoun Allergy Network (LAN) online store!  We have created wonderfully designed awareness products for adults, children, home and more!  Proceeds from sales will benefit our efforts to run programs for our members.  Visit our store today!  www.Cafepress.com/ShopLANOnline

The Grab and Go
A new line of emergency medicine carries has entered the market and these products are fabulous!  Targeting teens and moms, Epi-Essentials was created by a mother who wanted a better option for her daughter to carry the essential emergency medications.  As children with food and other anaphylactic allergies progress into the teen years, many are hesitant to carry their medication for fear of not being able to fit in.  That's where Epi-Essentials fills the gap.

_As of May 2011, Pizza Hut announced a new allergen list on their website.  This includes their pizza sauce, sweet pizza sauce, chicken and more that are cross contaminated with tree nuts and other allergens.  Please be aware of this new change.  View the list on Pizza Hut's website: http://www.pizzahut.com/foodallergies.html

_Easter is fast approaching, and filling Easter baskets with treats can be a challenge for families with members who have food allergies. However, allergen-free alternatives are becoming more readily available on-line and at local stores. Here are a few companies that offer allergen-free Easter candies and chocolates. Links to additional companies that offer allergen-friendly foods, may also be found on the LAN website under Online shopping.

_Debbie Finkel, a Brookline, Massachusetts attorney and mother, became concerned when her eighteen month old toddler bit into a pastry and broke out in hives during a family trip to Florida.  A visit to a specialist revealed several allergies: all tree nuts, sesame, shell fish, and chick peas.  Thus SafeKeepers was born.

Those living with food allergies know too well how difficult it is to find allergy friendly treats.  Many of us find ourselves importing treats from outside the United States.  Families living with peanut and tree nut allergies in the Loudoun County, VA area can stop searching because Simply Nut Free Chocolates is now available!  With several flavor options and fillings, owner (and LAN member) MaryAnne Klank offers a wonderful variety of peanut and tree nut free chocolates.  There's something for the kids, like the solid milk chocolate treats in seasonal shapes and something for the grown ups like, the Chili infused Velvets!  Take it from this chocolate lover, Simply Nut Free Chocolates are a heavenly dose of delicious treats mixed with a bit of sophistication.

_Back to school has always been an exciting time for families but for families living with severe allergies, it can be stressful as well.  To help ease the transition into the new school year, we have compiled a list of our most favorite back to school products!

_"TORONTO (NBC) -- The lunch menu at Beatrice Povolo's home never includes any peanut products.
